Sleepy Socks

Jackson slept today. Sort of. Here he is after a car nap this morning. He completely boycotted his usual morning nap so I packed him up and headed to our friends' house for some play time. His 2-year old friend, Charlie, totally tuckered him out and he crashed in the car on the way home. Trouble is, we only live 5 minutes from their house.

What to do? It was lunchtime and a nap at this time would have completely screwed up any chance of a "real" afternoon nap later on, but then again, he was sleeping soundly and who am I to say when and where he can sleep? Beggars can't be choosers, after all.

Jack has been known to transfer from car seat to crib without so much as a peep in the past, so I gave it a whirl today. No such luck. He woke right up and yelled at me for 1.) waking him up and 2.) attempting to put him in his crib. Sheesh. If only I could have left him on the couch safely...

Two more car naps (we did errands), a drive around the lakes and (finally!) a nap in the snowsuit on the floor pillows at home and our Battle for the Nap for the day was over. It was 4:30, almost dinner time and time for a relatively well-rested boy to play. Which he did. Went down to bed at 8pm and I haven't heard anything yet, though the night's still young...

First night without Daddy on the second business trip in as many weeks: so far, so good.

Speaking of Daddy, here is a finished object to report: the first sock of the Universal Toe-Up Sock Formula from Knitty. I'm loving it! It fits, he loves it, the yarn was fun and would you look at that heel? I couldn't have planned that better myself. A perfect brown heel. And the yarn self-striped its way right back to the original color stripes from the top of the foot without a break. Just awesome.

It was almost perfect but I bound-off without thinking (I was watching "Return of the King" and got a little too into the battle with the Orcs) so it was a little too tight, to say the least. I'll have to un-do it and learn Elizabeth Zimmerman's Sewn Bind-Off (which I understand can also be found on Knitty...love, love, Knitty). That'll have to wait until tomorrow night when I (finally!) return to my Tuesday Night Knitting Group and also cast-on for this sock's partner. For now, I have a date with my Neopolitan ice cream.

Glad you are finally winning the battle for sleep. He looks like a little angel there.

The sock is great! I love the heel. Now I'm off to check out the toe-up formula, I didn't knit socks when it came out and so had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder.
