May Day

Spring has sprung in the best way this year and we've been digging into our gardens a little earlier than normal. Still holding off on planting the things that don't like nights below 50 degrees, but the peas are loving this weather. The soil is so warm this year--it's hard to hold back!

Jackson planted a pumpkin seed in a Dixie cup at his church school class a few weeks ago and it completely took off. We transplanted it on Earth Day to a larger pot and the thing is reaching to our sunny windows like it's trying to fly! Needless to say, the Boy is excited. He's already working on designs for his homegrown Halloween jack-o-lantern. (No pressure for Mom and Dad to keep the thing alive or anything...)

Spring means May Day and May Day means the annual In the Heart of the Beast May Day Parade and Festival. We walked over to the parade today and reveled with fellow neighbors, friends, and our community-at-large at this awesome event. I love how completely May Day is embraced by our community. It's really a major holiday around these parts and it's so fun. Jackson was a little overwhelmed as he sat on his dad's shoulders and scrutinized the next parade marchers (dancers! singers! puppets! musicians!) coming around the corner, but he told us all about what he liked best and least later at home. (Loved = balloons and the larger-than-life jellyfish puppets, Hated = skeleton puppets on stilts and chicken puppets, for fear that they would peck him.) Amelia loved everything that she saw from the angled position on my back but then promptly fell asleep and missed most of the parade (it's hard to handle all of that excitement when you're 21mos old and should be napping).

Cute pictures!
Looks and sounds like you have nicer weather there in Minnesota than we have in Utah this year. We had a little snow on Saturday..again!!! I am afraid to plant much yet. Lucky you!! Have a great week!
