Cat-less

No more Makita. She went back to the Humane Society today. It just wasn't the right fit for a few reasons, the biggest one being that she had problems "going" in the right spot. I can't accept that. I can't train that out of her. I can't handle that. One down comforter in the garbage, two upholstered chair cushions soaked and one down lap blanket in the wash (keeping my fingers crossed...). She was also really sick and while I hate to say that I gave her up because she was sick, well...I sort of did. It's a little difficult to attempt to force-feed your cat who is fasting due to illness with wet cat food in a syringe in order for her stomach to be able to take her medicine so that she will feel better and no longer need to fast - gasp! - while managing your 10-month old son too. Force-feeding a cat. Seriously? Man, it sucked.

She was a sweetie, but as I told her when I dropped her off tonight, she's "just not my cat."

Lucy is my cat, but that's another road which I won't go down tonight. Did I think that having a cat around again would mean that Lucy would be around again? Probably, even though that's silly. But Makita was no Lucy, that's for sure.

Our credit is good for three months so you'll either hear stories about another cat gracing our doorstep sometime soon or the Humane Society will get a big fat donation from us in the form of an unused credit. Either way, wishing your kitties sweet dreams. Where's mine?

Sorry the cat didn't work out. Regarding the odour of cat 'accidents' your local pet store or vet should stock a spray that breaks down the enzymes in the stain and eliminates the odour. We had a similar problem with our cat for a while.

Don't give up, I'm sure there's a cat out there for you.

I don't think now is the right time for a new pet. Just have fun with your son, and when he gets older then think about getting a cat.

Anonymous: Who are you?

Oh Catherine..I feel bad for you that you had to go through this. I know it was hard to take her back, but sometimes that is just the way it works. I had to take a dog back to the humane society before, years ago. We fondly refer to him as "Jake the furniture eating dog". I still felt bad, even though I was out a love seat and leather wing chair as well as two coffee table legs. He was just so darn cute I hated to see him go. BUT...you have to do what is best for you. YOur kitty is out there..you'll see.

Sorry Makita had to go, but you know your limits and she reached them quickly - not a good sign! Always good to go with your gut! ~e

Hi Catherine, Sorry to hear about the kitty. I had a to take a dog who turned out to be a biter back to the Humane Society when my children were small. I know how hard it is and I have empathy for you. We are on our third cat now and all were instantly litter trained. I'm sure there is a feline out there just waiting to be adopted into your loving family.

What a sad time! I know what you mean, and really C, your family has to come first. We just found the sweetest kitty, she is sooo good with the kids and very east to care for! Keep looking! You'll find your cat!

Catherine, I've had that experience, too. It's rough, but the right kitty will come along! Good luck!

(On another note, now that I'm an adult, I'm planning to adopt my first kitty at the end of the month! I'm so excited!)
