Cabin Knitting Retreat Report

The impromptu knitting retreat at the family cabin this weekend was a dream. Good times spent with good friends and good yarn (and good wine, good food, good pie, etc.). It was just a 36-hour retreat, but I must have spent at least half of that time actually knitting. What more could a Knitter ask for?!
After stopping at Playing with Yarn on the way up to the cabin, there was a need for yarn winding. Amazing Knitters helped each other out and held the skeins for each other immediately (and often)!
It was rainy and chilly for much of the weekend, but we didn't mind. Neither did this gnome who lives on the deck. (That's Lake Superior...)
Who let this pregnant lady wield an axe?! She was insistent and experienced and the rest were...uh...not. (She may be 7-months pregnant, but nothing can stop this woman!!) To be fair, we didn't actually let her chop firewood. She was merely splitting a few pieces of kindling to make them smaller...we had plenty of logs ready to go!
A Mason-Dixon log cabin blanket was started by Carey...
...and a pinwheel sweater was started by Ginny in these colors. These are just two of the many awesome projects from the weekend.
Cool landscaping from the Scenic Cafe, though we didn't eat there Saturday night due to lack of planning (the place was packed and we were a big group!). Betty's Pies did the trick of filling our stomachs and giving us the sustenance required for knitting late into the night.
We took a hike along the rocks down by the lake that go on and on and on...
The view of the cabin from the rocks. A small little cabin in the woods built by my Grampa a long time ago. We are very lucky that my aunt and uncle were able to keep it in the family and share it with everyone!
The cast: Mama Grouch, Jacqueline... (sorry about the bad photos, you get action shots with Knitters!)
...Gabriel the Wonder Wood-Chopping Momma, and Blogless Carey...
...Christina and the Poorly-Written Cabled Baby Hat Pattern...
...and my cousin Ginny and me. (I'm holding the first of my Advent Calendar Stockings...the project is back on!)

And let's see that yarn again...
This is a photo of all of the yarn represented in the cabin that weekend (not total skeins, but one of each color). It filled the table and we couldn't resist snapping these shots. Yarn pr0n, yes...we know. Don't you love it?!

Hello. I'm a fairly newbie knitter and came across your blog. Love it! I am actually headed up to the north shore of Lake Superior next week & cannot wait. We go up every fall around our anniversary. Knitting will join me this year, for those relaxing moments looking out at the lake.
