Gale Woods Farm Fun

We went to Gale Woods Farm for a fun, Halloween event last night and had a great time. Gale Woods is near and dear to us since it's where we were married, so it's always fun to go back. (We were married just beyond the tree in this photo on a grassy hill, the reception was in the big red barn pavilion pictured here.) They have expanded since we last visited and now have an education building attached to the main barn for programs. We were very impressed and happy for the Farm for their success!
The event had everything you could want for a Halloween adventure: trick-or-treating, arts & crafts, make-your-own-Halloween-cookies, a Singing & Storytelling Scarecrow at a bonfire, Pin the Face on the Pumpkin, Pumpkin Bowling, and of course, the hay ride (which was really a tractor-pulled wagon without hay, but that's okay). We also had a tour of the barn and got to meet the chickens, turkeys, and sheep of Gale Woods. The volunteers had carved about a gazillion jack-o-lanterns and placed them all over the farm. Very fun and spooky.
They sell their farm produce in the new building and I'm kicking myself for not buying some eggs. I love farm-fresh eggs! It was just a bit too crazy with all the people there. I did buy some yarn though (duh) and will share that later, when it's been photographed for Ravelry. It will be a nice, simple cardigan vest for Dan to wear at work when he's chilly...he picked it out. Gale Woods yarn is meaningful for all of us!
[This is Sampson, the nicest farm dog in the whole world. He was at our wedding too...]

[The hay bale maze. Jackson wouldn't stop to be photographed!]

One of the best parts of our evening was making a hot dinner at home and packing it in our insulated picnic backpack to tote along. We had hot butternut squash risotto, hot roasted beets and hot homemade bread with butter at the farm...fun!!

Looks fun!
We don't have a tradition to celebrate Halloween here, but it's starting to become more of it in the big citys...

Have a great week :)

That sounds wonderful - Halloween not really celebrated in Australia - but I wish it was!

What a delicious account of a great time! Been away from the ether for a while--great to catch up with all the goings-on via your blog. You set a high standard with your lovely posts. =)

P.S. I gasped when I saw Audrey II up for sale. My self-control is winning thus far, but there is something sinister and hypnotizing about the picture with the "for sale" tag....
