FO Report: Jackson's Green Mittens

Just finished these green mittens for Jackson today and I'm seriously hoping that he'll actually wear these. Like most 2-year-olds, he isn't a fan of mittens, but since he loves his green hat so much, I thought that maybe he'd wear mittens made out of the same yarn. A mom can dream...

Jackson's Green Mittens
Yarn: Malabrigo worsted in "sapphire green"
Needles: US5 + US7, dpns
Pattern: A hodgepodge of many different mitten patterns I've used over the years...can I safely call it "my own" pattern now, since I no longer refer to any actual patterns but just simply cast on and knit?
Size: Toddler, 2-3 years (hopefully)

The hat was knit very quickly on a camping trip last summer where we slept in a tent with outside temps in the 40s, so I went very fast on it. If I had the yarn to do a "do-over" on this one, I would have knit the bottom in a 2x2 rib instead of 1x1. As you can see, it's badly misshapen and sorely in need of a wash and de-pill. (At least it shows that he actually wears it...I hope the mittens look this bad by the end of the winter!)

(I just realized that these mittens are my first completed objects of 2008. What? It's February already! I knit faster than this, I swear.)

Organic alpaca cardi progress: seaming moving right along! It's a good thing that this alpaca is quite possibly the softest yarn I've ever worked with - other than Malabrigo, of course - or else I would thoroughly hate seaming this one. The stitches aren't *too* teeny, but I did knit it on US6s which means that I have relatively small Stockinette stitches in charcoal gray all blending into one...this project requires very good lighting! Stay tuned...

Jackson has good taste in yarn! Pooey - I hate 1x1 rib for that reason. I will never, ever use it on socks if I can avoid it...

Love the mittens and the hat - I always use 2x2 rib - for some reason I can 2x2 forever, but I get really tired of 1x1 really fast!

The green colour is beautiful. Hope he'll use them ;)
