Finished Object Report

Jackson's Hoodie
Pattern: Knitting Pure & Simple "Children's Tunic" #232
Yarn: Knit One, Crochet Too 2nd Time Cotton,* 8-ply, "Earth," 3 skeins
Needles: US6 + US8 24" circulars, dpns
Size: 2-4, though it actually turned out a bit smaller, on purpose
Gauge: ~5 stitches per inch
Notes: Worked in the round from the top-down; hood picked up. I had three inches of yarn leftover. Well, three inches + one entire mismatched-yet-same-dye-lot skein that I was hoping to not need. I just barely made it...the I-cord drawstring is the end. Literally.

I love this sweater. The yarn is really soft and has a fantastic drape. About a million times while knitting this sweater for Jackson, I dreamt of having one of my own.

It was a bit difficult to photograph on the model considering he was right in the middle of teething and just about off to bed. But he was a good sport.

I was aiming to have this fit him this fall for those early chilly days and nights, but it looks like we'll be able to get away with putting it on him this summer with a cuff roll-up. We've got a couple of mountainous, Great Lake-y adventures coming up soon, so hopefully some of the evenings will get chilly enough to warrant a cool, earthy cotton sweater. My goal is to "condition" it with campfire smoke, if you know what I mean.

And don't you think that this will look good on a boy or a girl? I bought the yarn before we knew that we were pregnant again, but I'll still claim it as good planning. If we're having a girl, she's totally wearing brown.

It's really cute and cozy looking! You should make one for yourself - I know there's a KP&S tunic pattern - picking up stitches to add a hood wouldn't be hard.

Great sweater! It makes Jackson look even more adorable (if that's possible).

So... Harry Potter. I re-read #6, and last night I was thinking about the final horcrux. ...and I came to an incredibly sad conclusion. (Don't read the last paragraph if you want to circumnavigate the thought)

The unknown either belongs to Gryffindor or Ravenclaw--
In order to create a horcrux you must kill someone. HP's parents died right before Voldemort's spell left a mark on Harry-- SOMETHING stopped Harry from dying-- Voldemort can't kill a part of his soul.... if it's true-- argh! I'm going to HATE the end of the series.

What a GREAT way to overcome the dye lot challenge--it looks fantastic! Congratulations!

The hoodie looks great! One question though- do you think the dye problem came from it being recycled cotton? Maybe different varieties of cotton made it into some of the yarn and it absorbed the dye differently. Have you used this brand of yarn before? I know-strange question. Oh and by the way, congratulations on your happy news!
