You've got to be kidding me...

This is our bed last night. (Jackson is getting his eye teeth AND has his first fall cold coming on, so he ended up with us in the wee hours of the morn...)
Left Side:
Dan. The square block and the rectangle block represent Dan sleeping soundly. On his back. Taking up a full one-half of the bed. (Sweet dreams, honey...)

Right Side:
Jackson. The square block represents my pillow. The triangle block does not, however, represent my head. It is my son's head. And my son's entire body. Splayed out across my pillow.

Simon. The cat. The cat is represented by the triangle block at the bottom of the bed. Yes, I know, he's only a cat, but he's a big tom cat and I swear he doubles in weight when he's fast asleep. There's no budging this cat.

I am represented in this diagram by the little curled up (hand-knit, Badcaul) sock. This diagram is exactly to scale. That is exactly how much space I had in which to sleep. My (second) pillow was hanging off the side of the bed, only being held in place by my ear...since most of my head was off the bed too.

Did I mention that our bed is only a double? I'm so tempted to sleep on the couch tonight and leave all three of the boys to fend for themselves...

The blocks are a new toy for Jackson as of today. He doesn't have very many toys (on purpose) but lately we've been noticing an increased interest in blocks and building. We decided to splurge and get the maple blocks with the rounded edges that last for generations. BEKA blocks made right here in St. Paul, Minnesota. From the back of the box:

"Made in the USA by really nice Minnesota craftsmen."

That's just so cool. And Jack LOVES them so far. Now if only I could use them to build us a bigger bed...

I'd like to play with those blocks, too! They look so nice and smooth...

Good thing I don't have kids, otherwise my bed would look like yours. But I have four cats, three of which prefer to sleep *on* me when it's chilly (and one of them is 16 lbs). And my husband takes up three-quarters of the bed. I'd be moving to the couch, too, though if someone were on my pillow!

I'd move to the couch too, only when my kids, ages 5 and 3 are sick, they FIND ME wherever I am. So, unless I want a heavy child sleeping on my chest, I send my husband to the couch. We have had nights like you describe though. Not very comfortable.

I recognise that bed - but mine often has 2 children in it and I'm actually on 3 and a half inches at the side and sliding slowly toward the floor and that's in a queen sized bed - my sympathy - tip out the cat and make husband sleep on the couch!

Been there ;) But instead of the cat I had a kid...
And is it not strange that the dad always get his side of the bed alone??

I think the floor would even be a better choice than the bed!

Oh dear! You deserve a whole bed to yourself. Although, in the real mommy world that seldom happens. My three girls are 11, 9 and 6 and they still want to get in bed with me when they're scared. But never give up on the dream of your own bed and on being able to someday take a long bath without being interrupted... it could happen.
